I just installed the bridge version of this in my Firebird I. First off, this is a beautifully made thing! I have been going through mini-hum-sized P90-like pickups for this guitar like a madman lately, and comparing as I go along. This Tuxedo Pickup is on the higher end of build quality, among the similar pickups out there. Despite the metal covering, it is not highly microphonic. The construction and wax potting seem to be spot-on, in that I'm not getting any unwanted squealing, but I'm still getting some nice overtones and tactile sounds. Nicely done! I would appreciate more information about the pickup's construction and components, though. While I certainly appreciate the hum cancelling, without taking the pickup apart I don't know how this is being accomplished. I'm guessing there's a smaller companion coil in there somewhere? Anyway, it works! It's very quiet and doesn't act like a single coil near amps or under lights. But interestingly, I get a pretty high resistance (~15k) when I measure it, and yet the pickup doesn't seem to have a whole lot of output. It feels and sounds like a lower-wind P90, or maybe like a hot Jazzmaster pickup. It doesn't push my amp much, and it doesn't have the kind of mids and lower mids you'd get from a regular P90 or hot P90. So, because of that high resistance and this kind of low-ish output, I'm guessing that the magnet setup is not really a P90 magnet setup. Or maybe the additional coil is changing the equation? It's bright, so I feel that Alnico V vibe. But I'd be surprised if there are actually two big magnets in there. Maybe this is why it doesn't have the burn, chunk and compression that I'm used to getting from hotter P90s. But I'll tell you what - this is a very lovely-sounding pickup. It has loads of definition and a nice dynamic range in the mids to highs. It definitely has more of those things than you'd get from a hotter P90. I'll get to use it in anger soon in rehearsal and a show and then we'll see if it stays in the guitar, or if my search continues. Cheers
